RadStore™ Digital Archive v2.1®

Applicare’s Windows NT/2000 based archiving solution. Ease of use

A year  after the  initial release,  Applicare can be proud of a prominent installed base of RadStore archives. This shows there is a huge  market need for a cost-effective, reliable, easy to  maintain, scalable,  high performance, Windows  based  DICOM  archive. In its  second  major release  many  exciting  features  have  been  added  to RadStore, such  as  Windows 2000  support, extension of  the   storage   capacity, DVD-R/DVD-RAM support,  clustering,  query  spanning,  archive   partitioning  and additional serviceability tools.

RadStore has built an excellent reputation with regards to the ease of use. The 2.0 release will consolidate and expand this. Scripting wizards simplify customization and configuration of the archive and will enable hospitals to tailor the system easily to their needs. Repair tools for the database, the option to back-up and restore the configuration of the system and improved logging mechanisms are other examples of product enhancements.

Hardware and Media Independent

RadStore is a software only product, giving customers the freedom to choose their hardware and media (RAID and a DLT, AIT, LTO, CD, DVD-RAM or DVD-R jukebox). To access these devices, RadStore uses SmartStor Archive for CD/DVD jukeboxes and DiskXtender for tape libraries. Any device supported by these products can be used to store data.

Highly customizable

Workflow rules (like auto-routing, pre-fetching and data migration) can be based on any of the DICOM information available in the archive.  The new scripting-wizard will help the administrator to customize the system.  Database flexibility (adding and removing DICOM tags to and from the database) enhances the power of e.g. auto-routing and query mechanisms by offering the possibility to auto-route and query on virtually any existing DICOM field.

Web-based Management Console

Remote management is essential to an archive.  The RadStore Management Console is a Web-based application that can be used over intranets and even the Internet.  It allows local and remote-administration to monitor the status and contents of the archive, to take action if a critical situation is reported, to modify configuration settings, and much more.

Query Spanning and Forwarding a Remote Study

Via RadStore 2.1, workstation users can directly retrieve studies from remote archives.  After a workstation queries RadStore, RadStore in turn will query not only its own database but other remote archives and display the total query results.  When users select a study for viewing, RadStore will if necessary import the study to a local cache and forward it to the workstation ready for the user to view.

Create Multiple Archives

With a single RadStore 2.1 installation, you can create multiple archives to keep the data of different departments/hospitals separated or to create e.g. a teaching archive.  Each archive will have its own AE TITLE, users, rules, media, etc.  This is a very cost-effective solution as these multiple archives run on a single system.

Shelf Storage Management

RadStore supports Shelf Storage Management for all media types, so you can export media from the jukebox and the system will know on what media what information is stored.  When a particular study is requested, RadStore searches the archive for it.  If the study is not present in the cache or on the online media, RadStore provides feedback on where the study can be found ('Insert CD-ROM number MR_16 into your jukebox" for example).

Open Access to Storage

Currently RadStore supports the storage of DICOM data, In the future, it will also be possible to support non-DICOM information, such as lab results, HIS/RIS information and correspondence.

DICOM Part 10

All data is written in the DICOM 3.0 Part 10 format.  This makes RadStore compatible with the RadWorks Single Media Archive Module.  For example, all CD's created by the Single Media Archive Module can be simply inserted into the RadStore archive without any need to migrate the data.

Security

The following items prevent unauthorized persons from gaining access to data:

  • Management Console users have access rights-based registered accounts.

  • Client stations belong to user groups with variable access rights.

  • Verification of origins and destinations of the archive.  No data can be received from an undefined modality or sent to an undefined workstation.
